Learn the things that will be useful to you
Computer Science Technology is a career program geared towards getting you ready for the workforce. An alternative path to university, our program is one of practical hands-on experience, fine-tuned to teach you the skills necessary to engage real world problems from a programmer's perspective.
In learning how to create new computer programs, and improve existing ones, you will be ready to start working very early in life. Your understanding will be put to the test every day, refined, and shaped to help engineer your own personal dreams.
It feels good to be wanted
You wouldn't believe how many great jobs are out there for programmers! From E-Commerce sites that need programmers to create code for enhancing the shopping experience, to community engines like Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter, all of them hungry for the solid programming that will keep it all growing. And with so many corporations, companies, and organizations relying on computers to run their businesses, the demand for support is simply not being met. A degree in Computer Science Technology will get you get the up-to-the-minute training necessary to meet these growing needs, head on.
Save the world with the push of a button
Computer programmers have the potential to do a lot of good for humanity. Although our program is designed to give students the tools they need to get cutting edge jobs in the corporate world, that doesn't mean that you can't apply these same skills to help those in need. Corporations in developing economies are in dire need of programmers and network specialists that can engage international markets and opportunities in the same way that western companies have been doing for years.
We get around
You'll make a great salary, often earning more than university grads do right out of school because the things we teach are actually in demand. If exploring the world and solving problems on a daily basis sounds exciting, it's because it is! Think of a place, any place, and you can bet that it has a need for the level of computer training we offer, making you an indispensable part of the international workforce. Computer Science Technology doesn't stifle adventure; it rewards it, with gusto!
Because programmers are not bound by physical limitations—a laptop and internet will usually do just fine—mobility is easy, even downright practical in this flat brave new world. Now you tell us, what's nerdy about snorkeling in the Bahamas while on a break from some routine network updates, made just minutes ago in the shade of a palm tree?
Undergrad ready
Even if your sole intention is to go straight on to university after graduating from CEGEP, Computer Science Technology remains a practical choice. Although not the traditional path to university computer science, we are specially suited for students with a passion for the practical side of computers that they want to enrich, before they move on to purely theoretical hard science. Our graduates have an easier time paying for tuition because they can work in their field immediately, on either a part-time or full-time basis.
To this end, a graduate of Computer Science Technology could also receive the equivalent of a full semester at university in advanced standing. Instead of the usual 90 credits required to graduate with a bachelor's degree, you may only need 75. Woah! Talk about getting on the fast track to success. So even if jumping in to the job market right out of CEGEP isn't your top priority, enrolment in our program will still save you time and resources in the long run.
Fall in love with your workplace
Computer professionals generally work in clean, comfortable offices, or in labs (think Google!) in which computer equipment runs amuck. Others work from airplanes and hotel rooms who frequently travel to dialogue with clients in person, while others prefer working from home, which is as common as juice boxes at a pewee soccer match. Most computer programmers work a 40 hour week, maybe 50 if they're keen, and enjoy the perks of 3 week paid vacations. Employers are professional, motivated to help you stay happy, cooperative, and productive. It actually sounds a lot like CEGEP, only with less travel time.
